Thousand Suns

Thousand Suns (Atomic Array 007)

We had a crazy time doing this episode, and especially enjoyed a chance to sit down with James Maliszewski of Rogue Games to learn more about Thousand Suns. It’s fitting that we should be featuring one of their games, since Atomic Array kicked off with a Rogue Game. Why is it fitting? This will be our last show, since Rone is dumb and Ed can’t handle it anymore…

Note: The above is humor. Blame it on Ed. He’s now dumb, too.

Space marines, exploration, slavery and galactic wars - The Fleet has it all. This series of shared-world short fiction features offers from some of speculative fiction’s top authors.

Contests!

We wrap up the New Gods of Mankind and Interface-Zero give-aways, and launch one for Thousand Suns. Don’t forget to listen to Atomic Array 006 to learn about the SECRET CODE CONTEST, which expires on October 17th.

Great show, guys. This was my first time with your podcast and I’ll be back for more!

Thanks for giving Thousand Suns the love it deserves! I sometimes think it was one of the most overlooked games of 2008. I have found it to be one of the few sci-fi RPG games that really balances depth with ease of use, and leaves so many open possibilities (and tools to get there) for the GM.

It was also funny to hear that someone else started hitting their Amazon wishlist because of this game. And thanks to this podcast, I just added a few volumes of “The Fleet” to my own, thanks for mentioning it.

NIZAH! NIZAH PODCAST!

I always like to think that the reason why Rone hasn’t signed up with any music contracts is because he knows that certain aspects of the music industry will suck his soul.. “The world is a vampire!” Sent to draaaaiiin yyyouu!” Leaving him an undead husk of man with even skinnier wrists and more moles than the moon has craters!

Great podcast as always.. But there is no way in H I can listen to 4 other podcasts for that bloody secret code jazz…

Highlights of the podcast:

Rone had a sci-fi class.. IN HIGH SCHOOL!? You lucky #@%^&*$!!

Wizard of Oz Goes to Maui… Where there is a clone of Elvis singing “Blue Hawaii”…. Ohh the implications of that are horrid indeed! But in a funny kind of way.

The Hen Jaa- And calamari! Hilarious… Again Rone breaks down an author’s aversion to something and links it with their write ups of some in game nasties!

“Milk dough out of your customer base..” Mayhaps Ed Healy wouldst like to make a game system with his customers constantly coming back for more… Taking lessons from Bill Gates are we Mr. Healy? What is up with that junk? : P

Ed Healy’s : “Screw this, we don’t need no stinking guests!”
Very funny, but I’m glad you’z dudes interviewed Mr. Maliszweski, great stuff.

And of course, Rone’s rant on himself… And he says he’s less egocentric… Hmmmm… I say, hmmmmm….

Thanks again gentlemen for a rocking almost hour plus interview.

You “sniff” make me proud!

Robert, thank you so much for the comments. Thousand Suns is an incredible game and we’re glad to have you aboard the good ship Atomic Array. (We’ll be out of dry dock as soon as they finish scraping space barnacles off our rusty thrusters.)

Sean, your killer breakdowns of the episodes become the thing I come to this page to look for. Always funny and insightful. As for me and ego… I’m so painfully self aware these days that there isn’t much room for self delusion. When calamity strikes the first thing I wonder is, “How might *I* be solely responsible for this?”

We try to keep our interviews around 35 to 40 minutes but this one wanted to be a bit longer.

Good show — Thousand Suns sounds like an awesome data mine of ideas, both the game itself and that bibliography. It’s been a while since a game’s bibliography blew me away, and I can’t wait to check it out. Sounds like great fodder for a Christmas Break reading list…

Glad to hear you enjoyed the show, Kenneth!

I’ve been meaning to slow down a bit and take the time to read a good book. It’s hard for me to read for pleasure when I have things going on and stress. Wasn’t that way when I was a kid though.

To the TIME MACHINE, Robin!
