The Great City (Atomic Array 008)

The Great City (Atomic Array 008)
0one Games publishes some of the BEST maps you’ll find in any gaming product, from any company, anywhere. They will, we assure you, blow your mind.
About a year ago, Mario from 0one asked Tim Hitchcock to flesh out one of those maps: ‘The Great City‘. Tim grabbed five of the Cabbages and set to work creating a complete urban campaign setting. Rone was one of those designers, so this is a special episode for us. Listen in to hear Tim and Rone edumacate Ed about the fruits of their labor.

Awesome! Glad you liked it Sean. We put a lot of heart in, and under Tim’s direction I think we crafted a truly unique and varied urban setting. The key part being every ward has a distinct flavor, making it like buying multiple cities, all in one.
To save you PDF hassle, Mario at 0onegames also sells these as print books through Lulu. The campaign setting a hardcover, the adventures soft. The quality is excellent. I’m holding my hardcover right now, and it makes me happy!
Thanks again, and glad to hear you popped by my blog! Which reminds me, I’d best go post about this Atomic Array!
Thanks for you comments, Sean.
I’m not a fan of PDFs either. They’re good for when I want to search a word without spending ten minutes flipping through a book, and 0one games allows you to strip writing from maps and such… but in general, I don’t like reading backlit manuscripts if I don’t have to.
Let us know what you think of the Great City your next time through. We’re writing an adventure arc for it now. Lou and I are cowriting two of the adventures together and they are my first published adventures. Perhaps I’m too close to the project to be objective but I think they’re astoundingly good. Guess I’ll have to wait for the reviews to come in.

In lieu of actually calling the show, due to phone problems, I’ve decided merely to stop by and say “hi.”

Hey Dave, install Skype (for free) and you can leave Ed a voicemail on his Skype account — ephealy.
(Choose the Dupont Washington Ephealy–just in case there’s another Ephealy out there, heaven forbid).
Or you can record a local copy with sound recorder (should be a part of Windows if you use Windows) then just send it to contest@atomicarray.com
Either of those will score you the PDF and maybe even win the print copy and adventure.
Hey!
Tim, Lou and Rone are all “geetar” players!! We were denied a jam session during the podcast!! No fair! Not fair at all!
What? No Rockonomicon? It’s go ROCK-ON right in the name.
Seriously Rone, How can you not feature ROCKONOMICON on Atomic Array.
Its a travesty.
Oh and yes, I really am from Pleasantville. I grew up on Sunnyside Avenue in Pleasanville. That’d make my stripper name Tim Sunnyside.
Well Jim, I’d have to say that the fighter on the front right is the closest match, minus that Lakota werecarp mein. I’m a decidedly less possessed looking fellow. Well… mostly.
That guy is like “What is my wife’s triple-jointed yoga instructor doing in our bedroom at noon with an ice pack on his groin?” angry.

DUDES!!
As always, great cast… I was so intrigued about the Great City campaign setting from Lou’s RPG aggression blog that I went and bought a PDF for myself… And indeed, it is awesome!
Before I progress with the er… comments… A slight rant on PDFs… The biggest claim to PDFs is that they save trees… Initially, yes, they save trees… But the fact of the matter is, I don’t want to be staring at a computer screen all day to get my gaming groove, messing around with the damnable size ratios on Adobe Acrobat, and read your juicy tidbits of the city… It’s tiring… Less tiring than reading… Say a printed book on the material… Sooo… I have no recourse but to buy printer paper and printer ink… So I may have spent 20 bucks or so… But you add in the paper and ink costs… So the total purchase ends up being 34-40 bucks!! Depending on the size of the PDF!! And then, printer paper… IS MADE FROM TREES! So PDFs… Saving trees?? That is a very weak argument methinks… And what about the solar flares that knocks out all electrical equipment… Your DM is looking at his laptop and suddenly the power goes out!! Where will his precious PDF be then!? I ask you!! Ooooohhh… K.. The rant is done.
To make a long story short, I bought the PDF… So don’t send me another one please…
Memory of Earth.. I’m buying it!! Thanks Ed!
Argument of Poo!! Oh I wonder if Lou and John would have differing insights into Winnie the Pooh!! I’m sure it would be highly entertaining! (Hint, hint)
Tom is from Pleasantville?? Very interestink!! And also very funny… Umm.. For some reason that I can’t fathom.
Gayhawk and broken gaydar… Rone, methinks you need to see a psychiatrist!!
Well, now I have to look at the Great City PDF and check out the wards… I forgot them all… Aside from the temple and the residential… Great stuff guys! And the last podcast joke… Two thumbs up!! Totally fantastic stuff… Cruel yet fantastic!
