Death’s Heretic (James Sutter)
Nobody cheats death. A warrior haunted by his past, Salim Ghadafar serves as a problem solver for a church he hates, bound by the goddess of death to hunt down those who would rob her of her due. Such is the case in the desert nation of Thuvia, where a powerful merchant on the verge of achieving eternal youth via a magical elixir is mysteriously murdered, his soul kidnapped somewhere along its path to the afterlife. The only clue is a magical ransom note, offering to trade the merchant’s successful resurrection for his dose of the fabled potion. But who would have the power to steal a soul from the boneyard of Death herself? Enter Salim, whose keen mind and contacts throughout the multiverse should make solving this mystery a cinch. There’s only one problem: The investigation is being financed by Neila Anvanory, the dead merchant’s stubborn and aristocratic daughter. And she wants to go with him.

Along with his uninvited passenger, Salim must unravel a web of intrigue that will lead them far from the blistering sands of Thuvia on a grand tour of the Outer Planes, where devils and angels rub shoulders with fey lords and mechanical men, and nothing is as it seems…

Prince of Wolves (Dave Gross)
For half-elven Pathfinder Varian Jeggare and his devil-blooded bodyguard Radovan, things are rarely as they seem. Yet not even the notorious crime-solving duo is prepared for what they find when a search for a missing Pathfinder takes them into the gothic and mist-shrouded mountains of Ustalav. Beset on all sides by noble intrigue, mysterious locals, and the deadly creatures of the night, Varian and Radovan must use both sword and spell to track the strange rumors to their source and uncover a secret of unimaginable proportions, aided in their quest by a pack of sinister werewolves and a mysterious mute priestess. But it’ll take more than merely solving the mystery to finish this job. For shadowy figures have taken note of the pair’s investigations, and the forces of darkness are set on making sure neither man gets out of Ustalav alive…

Plague of Shadows (Howard Andrew Jones)
The race is on to free Lord Stelan from the grip of a wasting curse, and only Elyana, his old elven adventuring companion and former lover, has the wisdom and reflexes to save him. When the villain turns out to be another of their former companions, Elyana and a band of ragtag adventurers must set out on a perilous race across the revolution-wracked nation of Galt and the treacherous Five Kings Mountains, bound for the mysterious Vale of Shadows. But even if they can succeed in locating the key to Stelan’s salvation in a lost valley of weird magic and nightmare beasts, the danger isn’t over. For Elyana’s companions may not all be what they seem.

The Worldwound Gambit (Robin D Laws)
In the foreboding north, the demonic hordes of the magic-twisted hellscape known as the Worldwound encroach upon the southern kingdoms of Golarion. Their latest escalation embroils a preternaturally handsome and coolly charismatic swindler named Gad, who decides to assemble a team of thieves, cutthroats, and con-men to take the fight into the demon lands and strike directly at the fiendish leader responsible for the latest raids—the demon Yath, the Shimmering Putrescence. Can Gad hold his team together long enough to pull off the ultimate con, or will trouble from within his own organization lead to an untimely end for them all?

[…] the end of last week I joined Rone Barton and Ed Healy for some questions about Plague of Shadows, and discussed why Scott Oden and I have never yet been […]

During the opening pulp noir sequence, I kept thinking: Who does Ed’s voice sound like here? Then it hit me! Ed’s voice is uncannily like Broadway actor Matthew Broderick! Really. Now, we just gotta think of some way to capitalize on this.

People have said I remind them of two actors / characters in the past. One was Ferris Bueller…

“Healy?… Healy?… Healy?”

I hesitate to ask who the other was …

As to the show, I really enjoyed H.A. Jones’ portion of the interview. I think he was the most interesting, mainly because his is a voice from *outside* rpg gaming. I think his perspective on branded, tie-in fiction were interesting, and how he brings his characteristic style to play in someone else’s sandbox.

Thanks for the insight, Troy. I too enjoyed having the “outsider” weigh in on tie-in fiction (Now there’s a sentence that almost seems to have a word puzzle in it - but doesn’t).

Another great episode! There was a mention of the Open Design Podcast on this episode. I know it is no longer produced but are there any online archives of the episodes?

I love all great production pieces between segments especially the “Pathfinder” one! Best line: “They’ve got an Ogre!” Classic stuff guys.

Thanks, Patrick! With Wolfgang’s permission, we’ll be archiving the Open Design Podcast on the Moonstew site as soon as there is a Moonstew site.

[…] Array interviews James Sutter, Dave Gross, Howard Andrew Jones, and Robin D. Laws […]

Whew, there was a lot of meat on them bones!

Patrick, it just occurred to me that the intros you’re mentioning were in two past Pathfinder focused episodes. Are you sure you heard this one with the gumshoe narration at the beginning?

Theodoric, there certainly was… a double length episode to be sure.

Rone: Yes I loved the noirish intro on this episode too. I just love the one from the other two Pathfinder shows. The Jason Bulmahn theme is great too! Any chance of featuring James Raggi, the creator of Lamentations of Flame Princess Weird Fantasy Roleplaying game?

Patrick, thank you for the recommendation. I’ll ask Ed about Lamentations of Flame Princess.
