Lamentations of the Flame Princess

Lamentations of the Flame Princess (Atomic Array 060)

This episode, we go Old School… James Edward Raggi IV is on to talk about Lamentations of the Flame Princess. If you’ve been intrigued by OSRIC or Labyrinth Lord, but haven’t taken the OSR plunge, may we suggest you give the Flame Princess a look.

Awesome episode Ed & Rone It’s up there with all the Paizo/ Pathfinder ones!
Raggi is a real character and a fantastic interview. You guys really did your “homework” and asked insightful questions. No. 60 is a real treat for all RPG-ers and DIY-ers! Bravo guys !

Thanks, Patrick. It was a long one, so we’re glad you like it.

You said in the podcast that there was going to be a link to a video of the flip-book art, and I was wondering where I could find that. This book looks AMAZING, and I’m definitely going to try and get my hands on a copy. Another awesome show, guys!

I forgot to make the video. Added to TO DO list!

Another great episode. Loved listening to Mr. Raggi wax poetic on his Lamentation of the Flame Princess.

Glad to hear that Ed enjoyed Gottacon, it’s a great con!

Were you there, Grimpen?

When I hear LotFP designer James Raggi say he thinks Soloman Kane is cooler than Conan, I know this guy is gaming somewhere in the same wheelhouse as I! Checking out his blog posts only confirmed it. Bravo.

I gotta say, once he made that assertion, though, he should never have admited the inspiration for the game was some heavy metal fangirl from the 1990s — I would have said it was a tongue-in-cheek reference to REH’s Dark Agnes — who is much cooler than Red Sonya, I must add — and also very Old School!

I found James’ position on his art choices refreshing. While I probably fall into a camp that prefers my gaming art to be more — inclusive — and prefer the characters to be shown wearing armor of a tamer and practical nature — I respect a publisher who says: This is what I like, this is what inspires me, my roots are in heavy metal, and I offer it because it might inspire you, too. Frankly, there should be room in our industry for a variety of tastes.

So Ed reads — and enjoys — poetry? I didn’t know your literary leanings were so broad and deep, brother. I salute you on your choices and keep drawing inspiration from whatever verse moves you.

I haven’t finished listening to this episode, yet — saving Rone’s rant for when I share his mood!

Excellent episode.

I really love reading your long, thoughtful comments, Troy. It’s been too long since we’ve had a chance to hang out. (5 months?) I look forward to rolling dice with you at Gen Con.

Ed, should the gaming — and employment — gods permit, I would enjoy that immensely.

BTW: Got a great chuckle from Rone’s rant. And yes, kids + restaurants is a often a bad formula.

Glad you enjoyed the show, guys!

Great podcast guys! As a heads up, I tried to enter your contest but your servers (mail and webpage) were down for quite a while on the 1st of March and email is still bouncing back as ‘failed’.

Hey Bert, should be working now. We were down for approx 5 hours today.

‘contest@atomicarray.com’ is still bouncing back as a bad address. This was the email address that you requested contest submissions to be sent to?

My bad, Bert. It should be good now. I just tested it.
