Interface-Zero (Atomic Array 005)

Interface-Zero (Atomic Array 005)
B. Matthew Conklin III and Patrick Smith joined us to talk about Interface-Zero, the True20 cyberpunk setting from RDP.
It all started on the top of a publisher’s wish-list. There were times when we wondered if I-Z would ever see the light of day. Now it’s here, and it rocketh!
Ed’s Pick
Amin Bhatia’s at it again. Ed talks about the synth composers latest - Virtuality - a great release and perfect for use as a cyberpunk soundtrack.

Comments
These comments are specifically about the Interface-Zero episode. Overall, this interview made me want to try the game.
I like the concept presented of hyperreality. It reminds me a lot of the Otherland series by Tad Williams (and probably will remind others of 100s of other sci-fi books!)
The “McDonalds virus infecting your brain” concept reminds me of the dream advertising in Futurama Season 1.
I can see how the mysticism of the world could tie in well with the “rose-tinted” nature of the hyperreality. I imagine an interesting side-plot where there could be a cult of hyperreality adicts who function counter-culturally and strive to promote a view of a baser reality, much like the Modernist art of Lucian Freud.
I didn’t particularly appreciate the story explanation for why gene splicing and bio upgrades are commonplace. It seems like a cheap excuse for creating powerful or possibly broken characters. “The military started it and then the rich people did it for fun” … the urge to do something like changing one’s basic human makeup doesn’t start in simple dabbling in eccentricity. If being upgraded is only eccentric in this society, so be it. Otherwise, I’d like a better story around the existence of it in everyday life.
Your insights are much appreciated, Erin. Many, thanks!
And Sean, you’ll find that my rants range anywhere from PO’d in a funny way to just plain fired up. ;) It was hard for me to find humor when it comes to trolls because they’re just so aggravating and Hulksmashable. I really wanted to just label them and put out a call to arms. The sane people of the net need to legion up and take ‘em down.
Episode 006’s rant is a bit more serious than most, as well. But the idea I have for 007 should get a laugh or ten.
Dude… The only way to take down trolls is do what Jay and Silent Bob did, track those bastards down to their homes, and beat the living snot out of them.
I hate trolls too… But the best thing I do is avoid the sites where they’re at… I only stick to a few sites.
Great to hear from you Rone, I thought you were, well, abducted by some type of militia or something.
All the best-
Sean/GG
Why Sean, the last time I was abducted by a militia, I just started talking…
And talking…
And talking…
By the time authorities arrived to untie me, my captors were all dead with blood crusted ears.
[…] Zero is back! On Atomic Array 005, we featured the True20 version of Interface Zero, and now Gun Metal Games has a new treat… […]

Another nice podcast… Sounds like an interesting game… Though with the budget and my general disinterest for Cyberpunk means I will not be checking the game out any time soon.. The troll rant is timely… But I thought the movie theater rant was much funnier.
Thanks for another cast gentlemen!
Cheers-
GG
