Dogs in the Vineyard Dogs in the Vineyard (Atomic Array 026)

We wrap up our first year on the air with a special show. D Vincent Baker’s Dogs in the Vineyard is not a new game - it came out in 2004, grabbing the Indie RPG of the Year and Most Innovative Game awards. And deservingly so, Dogs is one of the best games we’ve ever played. Rone’s recent experiences with Dogs were so compelling that we asked his GM, John Stavropoulos, to join the conversation and quiz him about the game and how it plays.

It sounds like you have a great group. One of the characters in my campaign was half-mountain folk, but the Chinese background really made for an interesting character. Who knew that Confucius was so in tune with the future old west?

It was a good discussion; I enjoyed hearing more takes on Dogs. I’m very curious about those revision ideas Vincent mentioned…

LOL. Yeah, that Confucius was so Old West they say he had a 20 gallon hat!

Smitty used that ‘Confucius Say’ power about ten times spread out over two towns.

Smitty: “Confucius say it’s a lot harder to talk b@##$hi@ at my face with a bunch of broked up teeth!”

Smitty: “Confucius say dark spirits fall brittle in the dazzling brilliance of a righteous man!”

Or my favorite recollection…

Smitty: “Confucius say stupid people are the reason boots fit up a$$es!”

Thanks for your comments, Scott. I’m glad you liked the episode.

DIV sounds great for roleplayers. And as Scott implied, the chemistry of Rone’s gaming group is magical and inspiring. If only more gaming groups were as such, things would be awesome. It would’ve been great to sit on a few sessions and pick up some tips and hopefully learn a few things.

One of the best rants from Rone I’ve heard.

Great stuff. As per usual.
